The Car
The Alfa Romeo 159 Tipo is a derivative of the highly successful 158. Powered by a 1.5 litre straight-eight, supercharged engine producing 420 BHP, it was first introduced in the 1951 Formula one series. Due to the fuel consumption from this engine, it lost their first race in the British Grand Prix due to having to make more pit stops than the competitors. Despite this, it still went on to take the championship with driver Juan Manuel Fangio.
The Model
Built from the 1:20 scale Model Factory Hiro kit. The kit benefits from a high level of detail, from the suspension setup through to the carburettor linkage. It includes photo etched parts throughout, including the wheel spokes, providing a highly realistic replica. The only additions added were some minimal wiring in the engine bay.
