The Bike

The Ducati 916 was built to replace the 888 in 1994, and continued in production until 1998, when it was replaced with the 996. Ducati used a v-twin engine in the 916 to provide an even torque band, which was contrary to rivals who were developing engines for outright power.

The Model

This is built from the 1:12 Tamiya kit. Attention was made on this to accurately reflect the engine cover and wheel colours as they required a custom paint mix to get an accurate representation. It was deliberately left without any extras fitted to focus the attention on the custom green metallic paint job. The usual attention was made to all the parts to look accurate compared to the real bike, with emphasis being made on the exhaust weathering to reflect heat stains.

Completed January 2013
