The Bike
Released in 1998, the Yamaha YZF-R1 has gone through a number of generations, but generally sticks to its original format. Powered by a 998cc engine, the bike can rocket from 0-60mph is just under 3 seconds, putting it firmly in superbike territory. Due to it’s short wheelbase, it can also handle the corners, with a reputation for being a fast, good handling bike that is also more than capable on longer journeys.
The Model
The model was built from the 1:12 Tamiya kit. It was painted with a custom black and yellow two tone, one of the more modern colour choices on the R1. It was built pretty much standard, with a lot of the attention going on the fully working aftermarket photo etched chain, with each linkage built up individually, as the real chains are made.
